To create a Goodreads account, you must be at least 13. Even though it is a global site, it is still a U.S. company. The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a federal law in the U.S. that restricts marketing to those under 13.
The same law applies to Facebook. The people under 13 on Facebook and Goodreads lied to get their accounts. If you teach your children to lie about their age to join a social media site, don’t be surprised when they lie about their age to do other things when they are older.
Minors (under 18 in the U.S.) automatically have private profiles.
You can create custom shelves on your account to list books for your children until they are old enough to have their own account.
